Independent Rinki Walia wins in Naraingarh

Ambala, June 22

Independent candidate Rinki Walia has been elected as the new chairperson of Naraingarh Municipal Committee on Wednesday. Rinki Walia, wife of former chairman Amit Walia, defeated BJP candidate Pritpal Kaur Makkar by a margin of 1,061 votes.

While Rinki was polled 4,115 votes, Pritpal got 3,054 votes, Independent candidate Mamta Rani got 2,701 votes, AAP’s Anita got 1,124 votes, BSP’s Kamla Devi got 955 votes, INLD’s Amita got 255, and Independent Shailza Sharma got 180 votes.

Besides the new Chairperson, the voters also elected 15 members of the Naraingarh municipal committee.

Kurukshetra MP and former Naraingarh MLA Nayab Singh Saini along with several BJP leaders had campaigned for Pritpal Kaur but the BJP failed to win the civic body election.

Rinki Walia and Mamta Rani, both come from a Congress background and the sitting Congress MLA Salley Chaudhary in a message had said the party decided not to contest on the party symbol but two Congress workers were in the fray. She appealed to the voters to elect any of these two (Rinki and Mamta) to ensure the development of Naraingarh.

After her win, Rinki Walia, said, “I am grateful to the people of Naraingarh for supporting me. Besides resolving the long-pending issues of drainage, water supply and sanitation, we will raise the demand district status for Naraingarh and also raise the other demands before the government. We will eliminate corruption and ensure that the people of Naraingarh do not face difficulties in getting any work done.”

To a query about the future alliance with the Congress and not getting the required support from the sitting MLA, Amit Walia said, “People of Naraingarh supported us and we will decide the future course of action soon after holding a meeting with the supporters. We will make efforts to fulfil all our promises and ensure the development of Naraingarh.”

Meanwhile, AAP candidate Om Prakash from ward 10 of Naraingarh MC registered a win by defeating Independent candidate Jatinder Singh with a margin of 192 votes. Om Prakash was polled 454 votes, his nearest rival Jatinder Singh got 262 votes, while another Independent candidate Surinder Kaur managed to get 160 votes.
