With the deadline for providing water supply in 15 gram panchayats of Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) having elapsed, the Shri Krishna Infrastructure Company has failed to complete the work in allotted time.
UNFINISHED TASKS
Shri Krishna Infrastructure Company has laid pipelines under the AMRUT scheme on a stretch of only 14 km against the allotted tender of 34 km
Of 5,700 water connections, it has issued only 1,200 so far
Karnal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said if the company failed to give a satisfactory reply, a penalty of 10% of the total cost would be imposed on it
It has laid pipelines on a stretch of only 14-km, whereas it was told to lay pipelines on a stretch of 34-km. Also, out of 5,700, it has issued only 1,200 water connections. Keeping in view the incomplete work, KMC Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has issued a show-cause notice to the company, asking it why it should not impose a penalty amounting to 10 per cent of the total project.
The water pipelines were being laid under the AMRUT scheme, involving a cost of Rs13 crore. The company was assigned construction of five tubewells for water supply and it has successfully completed the construction.
“I have served a notice to Shri Krishna Infrastructure Company for having failed to lay pipelines for water supply and issue water connections,” said the Commissioner. If the company failed to give a satisfactory reply, a penalty of 10 per cent of the total cost would be imposed on it, he added.
The KMC had come into existence on March 17, 2010. In a bid to turn into a corporation, it had to meet a population criteria of having around 3 lakh people. To attain the status of the corporation, it included 15 gram panchayats — Kambhopura, Madanpur, Daha Jagir, Katta Bagh, Phoosgarh, Budha Khera, Mangalpur, Kailash, Baldi, Uchani, Uchana, Jhanjhari, Saidpura, Zarifa Viran and Dholgarh.
The Commissioner said to provide water supply in the villages, a company was assigned to it which had started with the work in November 2018. The work was expected to be completed by November 2019.
So far, it had not been able to complete even half of the said work, so the notice was issued to it, he said.
Residents of the villages have already favoured going back to the panchayat system, as they are not getting proper facilities from the civic body.
