The INLD has filed a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner of India and the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer alleging an error in the allotment process of election symbol for the Sirsa constituency.
INLD secretary Nachhattar Singh Malhan claimed that the returning officer assigned the election symbols at 2.00 pm on September 16, which was before the official deadline of 3.00 pm for the withdrawal of nominations.
The INLD argued that the early allotment of election symbols breached regulations and could affect the poll outcome. The party has requested that the election for the 45-Sirsa Assembly seat be cancelled. They have also called for increased transparency in the election process.
In response, District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma said the symbol allotment process actually began after 3.00 pm and was documented on video. He also noted that the Form 7 circulating on social media, which claimed to show the early allotment, is not from the official department and contained grammatical errors. Sharma confirmed that representatives from various parties were present during the symbol allotment.
