Install lights on Titram Mor flyover, Kaithal DC directs NHAI
Karnal, February 28
Kaithal Deputy Commissioner directed officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to install streetlights on the Titram Mor flyover at the earliest.
“If any accident occurs in the future, strict action will be taken against them,” said DC Prashant Panwar while chairing a meeting on road safety at the Mini-Secretariat in Kaithal on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, officials of the MC have also been directed to launch a campaign against encroachment and get all footpaths cleared by March 10.
The DC instructed officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure the repair of damaged roads in their respective areas so that people do not face any problems. “If roads are free from potholes, the chances of accidents will also be reduced. Ensure immediate repair if any road is damaged,” said the DC, adding that reducing the number of road accidents was their priority.
The DC said in the month of January, the Kaithal police had issued 3,774 challans and a fine of nearly Rs 28 lakh was collected, while 88 challans were issued by the Regional Transport Authority, mainly for overloading, under which a fine of Rs 32.74 lakh was collected. “Under the Safe School Vehicle Policy, a total of 38 school buses were checked in January, out of which the passing of five buses was stopped due to incomplete criteria,” he added.
The DC instructed the District Transport Officer, RTA Secretary and the respective SDMs to ensure timely checking of school buses and to submit reports to his office.
The DC, while reviewing the status of various roads, directed officials to repair them in the specified time frame. “Signboards and rumble strips should be installed there,” he said.
