Rohtak: With a view to creating awareness about safe and effective use of insulin for treatment of diabetes and dispelling the prevalent myths in this regard, an ‘Insulin Manual’ was released recently. The book has been edited by Dr Sameer Aggarwal, a former Professor at the Department of Endocrinology at Rohtak PGIMS, and Dr Sanjay Kalra, the president of Endocrine Society of India. “One of every eight Indian adults is living with diabetes, making the country the diabetes capital of the world. Insulin is being used for treatment of diabetes for nearly 100 years. The underlying idea behind bringing out the manual is to simplify the use of insulin,” maintain the editors, both of whom hold DMs in Endocrinology from AIIMS, New Delhi. Medical writers from nine countries have contributed articles and inputs to the international manual.

IGP visits police station site

Kaithal: Bharti Arora, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Karnal range, during a visit to this district on Sunday asked officials and women investigating officers to take special care while probing crime against women and cases registered under the POCSO Act. She said that in the rape cases of minors, the consent of the minor is irrelevant. In such cases, the help of a counsellor and doctor should be sought immediately. Not only this, the victim should not be called to the police station. She also inquired about a case in which a transgender running a private school was ill-treated by some people. She directed that proper action should be taken in this case. Earlier, Bharti Arora, accompanied by SP Veirender Vij, inspected the proposed construction site of Dhand police station that is to be constructed at cost of Rs 3.5 crore.

‘Change in education system needed’

Sonepat: BPS Women University, Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat), and Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, New Delhi, organised a two-day ‘Gyanotsav 2020’ on the university premises on the theme ‘Innovative and Creative Practices in Education for Better Tomorrow’. Inaugurating it, National Secretary of the nyas Atul Kothari opined that development of the nation and the uplift of the society was based on education. For it, change in the education system was required. In her presidential address, VC Prof Sushma Yadava said that the aim of Gyanotsav was to bring various levels and institutions of education on one platform for exchanging views on various subjects. On the concluding day on Saturday, BJP MP Ramesh Kaushik and MLA Mohan Lal Badoli said that Gyanotsav was a festival of knowledge and was the most-sought-after aim of human life. Around 500 speakers, presenters and exhibitors shared the best practices adopted in education.

Social media to help spread govt schemes

Kaithal: Rocky Mittal aka Jai Bhagwan, newly appointed chairman of the publicity cell in the Haryana Directorate of Information and Public Relations, has stated that social media would be used to propagate the various public welfare schemes of the state government. On his arrival at the media centre on the invitation of the local Medias Club, Mittal was given a warm welcome by the office-bearers and members. He said that all artists working in the Information and Public Relations Department would be trained about the latest techniques to provide information to the people about the welfare and development schemes launched for the benefit of the people. Interacting with mediapersons here, Mittal said that the artists playing important roles in this campaign would be suitably rewarded.

Training on seed production

Karnal: Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal, organised a 10-day training programme on “Participatory Seed Production of Rabi Crops for Entrepreneurial Development”. Dr KV Prabhu, Chairperson, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority, Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, was the chief guest of the valedictory function of the training. Dr Prabhu highlighted the major points of the proposed Seed Bill-2019 and the opportunity of entrepreneurship development in the seed sector. Dr GP Singh, Director of the institute, briefed about the research and seed production activities of the institute. He emphasised on the importance of quality and healthy seeds for farmers. Dr Gyanendra Singh, PI (Crop Improvement), highlighted the issue of involving small and marginal farmers in the seed sector for their benefit.

Khaps vow to fight social evils

Hisar: Continuing the social reforms drive, the ‘Samajik Kupratha Abhiyan Samiti’ of the Kalirawan khap held a meeting at Issarwal village of Bhiwani district. It was attended by representatives of four adjoining villages. Khap pradhan Virender Sandwa informed that panchayats of Devawas, Jainawas, Issarwal and Bushan took a vow to carry forward the campaign against social evils like drug menace, extravagant marriages and feasting on the death of persons. The village panchayats also agreed to impose ban on the playing of DJs. The panchayat also urged the gathering to work towards environment conservation and to keep a check on excessive usage of mobile phones by youngsters.

Blood donation camp held

Sirsa: A Dabwali-based NGO ‘Apne’ organised a blood donation camp in Dabwali town and collected 100 units of blood. Those were donated to the district Red Cross Society in Sirsa district. The camp was organised at the government hospital. Harish Sethi, an office-bearer of the NGO, said that the Red Cross Society had given a target of 50 units as they were facing blood shortage in the blood bank. “The residents responded well and gave 100 units of blood. The donors include women, transgenders and youth,” he said.
