Inter-college cricket tournament kicks off at JCD Vidyapeeth
The Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU) Sports Council launched its highly anticipated inter-college cricket tournament in a grand opening ceremony held at the cricket ground of JCD Vidyapeeth in Sirsa. The event was officially inaugurated by Prof. Dr Monika Verma, president of the University Sports Council and chairperson of the Physical Education Department. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. Dr Jai Prakash, director general of JCD Vidyapeeth, who presided over the programme. Special guests, Prof. Dr Ishwar Malik and Dr Savita, secretary of the Sports Council, also attended the event.
The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Amrik Singh Gill, the sports officer at JCD Vidyapeeth. Dr Gill greeted all the participating teams and the audience, emphasising the role of cricket as a symbol of sportsmanship and unity.
Thirteen teams from various colleges affiliated with Chaudhary Devi Lal University are competing in this prestigious tournament. The primary objective of the event is to foster not just sports talent, but also values of discipline, teamwork and mutual cooperation among students.
Prof. Dr Monika Verma and Prof. Dr Jai Prakash marked the official commencement of the tournament by meeting the players and conducting the toss. In her inaugural speech, Dr Verma highlighted the significance of sports in the holistic development of students, both physically and mentally. She stressed that such events play a crucial role in bringing students together, offering them opportunities to improve their skills while promoting a spirit of camaraderie.
