International Yoga Day: Contribute to nation-building by making yoga part of life, says Rana

Shyam Singh Rana, the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, has said yoga vidya is the invaluable heritage of the sages of India. “By making yoga a part of our life, we will build a healthy society and contribute towards the upliftment and progress of the country. Only then the purpose of celebrating International Yoga Day every year would be fulfilled,” the Agriculture Minister added.

He was speaking as the chief guest at an International Yoga Day event here, which was celebrated at the Shivaji Stadium on Saturday under the aegis of the Department of Ayush and the Haryana

The minister said the practice of yoga established oneness of body and mind, thought and action, restraint and perfection, and the harmony of man and nature. It was a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, he added.

“Yoga is not just an exercise but an expression of oneness. Yoga creates awareness in us by bringing changes in our lifestyle and can be helpful in tolerating changes occurring in the body due to natural causes,” the minister said. “Yoga proves to be very useful in guiding all of us. We should also talk about our feelings towards others to make our life meaningful.”

The minister said the United Nations General Assembly had acknowledged that yoga provided a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.

Not only India, but the entire world would continued to express its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for it, he added.

Deputy Commissioner Virendra Kumar Dahiya, in his address, said yoga was essential to achieve success in life.

He emphasised on making yoga a part of life.

After a yoga marathon held as part of the event, the minister honoured Gunjan for securing the first prize, Deepak for the second and Akshay for the third in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, the minister felicitated Raunak for bagging the first prize, Preet for the second and Laxmi for the third.
