A four-day training camp for government school teachers to prepare students for the International Mathematics Olympiad has begun here.
As per authorities, these teachers will use techniques learned during the training programme to train students of government schools for the olympiad. The initiative aims to enable government school students to qualify for the olympiad, and represent India internationally. Authorities said this was the first time that students of government schools were being trained free of cost for the olympiad.
The training programme began on Saturday at Government Model Sanskriti Girls Senior Secondary School under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Yash Jaluka. A total of 54 teachers participated in the programme.
SCERT Additional Director Sunil Bajaj, along with IIT-Kanpur Prof Alok Kumar and GST Commissioner Jaipur Gaurav Sinha, encouraged participants to provide training to students. District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO) Rohtas Verma and District Mathematics Specialist Chhatrapal welcomed the guests.
Jaluka said this was the first time in the country that such an initiative was being undertaken at the district level.
“Now, students from government schools will also have the opportunity to qualify for the International Mathematics Olympiad and represent India at the global level,” he added.
He encouraged teachers to actively participate in the camp and help students excel in the olympiad.
