Along with the rain, the heavy flow of water in the rivers continued to be a matter of concern for the residents and the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomer and District Municipal Commissioner Virender Lather, Ambala City SDM Darshan Kumar along with the officials of the municipal corporation, Irrigation Department, Public Health Engineering Department, NHAI and other concerned departments, inspected the Banudi Naka, Ghaggar and Ambala drain, and pump houses to assess the situation.

Ambala Deputy Commissioner said, “According to the Meteorological Department, alerts have been issued for continuous rain for two days. There is heavy rain since morning, and we have visited the critical points. The water level in Ghaggar is below the danger level and similarly, the water in Ambala and Ghel drains is flowing smoothly. Some localities, including Nadi Mohalla and the clothes market, have witnessed waterlogging, but the disposal pumps are working at full capacity and the water will be drained out soon. Officials of the departments concerned have been directed to stay at the station and not go on leave. All efforts are being made to ensure that people don’t face any inconvenience.”

Similarly, in Kurukshetra, the residents of Sector 13, Chakravarti Mohalla, Rajender Colony, Dukh Bhanjan Colony, Sector 17, Birla Mandir, and other low-lying areas witnessed waterlogging. Meanwhile, the Markanda river continues to give anxious moments to farmers and the residents of villages along the river.

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena said the administration was keeping a close watch on the rivers and the situation was under control. The water level of the Markanda River has increased due to rain in Himachal and the northern region. About 42,000 cusecs of water was recorded flowing in the river. In the Jhansa area, the river was flowing at a high-flood level. As a precaution, the SDRF had been deployed for help in the Jhansa and Shahabad areas.

The DC said after the rain on August 13 and 14, the e-kshatipurti portal was opened, and the names of 75 affected villages were included in the list. If any village other than the earlier identified villages was affected by the current waterlogging situation, then it would also be included on the portal. If the farmers were not able to apply on the portal for any reason, then special camps would be arranged by the administration at the village level and they could apply for any kind of loss.
