Chaudhary said that the family had demanded that in the FIR registered in connection with IPS officer Y Puran Kumar’s suicide, the names of the two main accused should be included in column number seven (as accused). In the memorandum submitted to the Chandigarh Administrator, the MP also demanded that a judicial inquiry be conducted for a fair investigation into the suicide case under the chairmanship of a High Court judge. He further requested that the bereaved family be provided security under the Chandigarh Administration’s jurisdiction.

He added that there were flaws in the FIR filed by the Chandigarh Police and demanded that the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, Section 3(2) (5) be added to the case. MP Varun Chaudhary also stated that Amneet P Kumar, IAS, and wife of the late officer, has sought official copies of documents seized by the Chandigarh Police during the investigation.

The MP demanded that the Haryana Government should immediately suspend the two IPS officers, named by Y Puran Kumar in his suicide note as being responsible for his death, so that the investigation could proceed impartially.

The memorandum submitted to the Chandigarh Administrator stated that caste-based discrimination and harassment were cited in the suicide note as the reasons behind the officer’s extreme step. The MP termed the incident a result of “caste-based persecution by top state officials” and said the event had shaken the entire nation.
