Haryana Irrigation Minister Shruti Chaudhry lists steps to deal with floods

Haryana minister for Irrigation and Women and Child Development Shruti Chaudhry said that new water channels will be set up as part of special projects to deal with the flood like disaster in future in the state.

Shruti visited the flood affected Sagwan village and reviewed the flood situation in the waterlogged village today. The minister said that since heavy rainfall during the monsoon has led to heavy waterlogging , the state government is taking all measures to drain out water from the affected villages in the state. “New channels will be constructed specifically for water drainage to deal with future flood like situations,” she said while interacting with the mediapersons during the visit.

She explained that heavy rainfall has caused drains to overflow which led to breaches at many places. “Officials and workers from the irrigation department and all other concerned departments are on the ground putting in all out efforts to drain out water and to handle the situation in the wake of breaches. The Chief Minister himself considers the Tosham region’s waterlogging issue as serious and has been consistently following up on the situation,” she said.

She assured that farmers and the general public will receive compensation for loss caused by the rain adding that the e-Khstipurti portal has been launched to report crop crop losses by the farmers.

The minister reiterated that separate channels will be built for this drainage, and projects will be planned and implemented to ensure that people do not have to face waterlogging again. She emphasized that disasters are not the time for politics, but to take measure.

Deputy Commissioner Sahil Gupta, Chief Engineer of Irrigation Dr Satbir Kadian, SDM Ravi Meena, Chief Engineer Satish Jain, Superintending Engineer O.P. Bishnoi, Executive Engineer Manish, Amandeep and Naveen Deshwal, Vikas Dhankhar and other officials were present during the visit.

The minister directed officials to ensure that affected residents receive every possible assistance. She said that villages like Sagwan, Dang Kala, and Dhani Biran, located in low lying areas, have accumulated water, thus thorough drainage efforts are underway to drain out water. She claimed that essential services are being provided, and all departments have been given directives to ensure these services reach the residents.
