Residents of Jaicity Colony, Jagadhri, are running from pillar to post to secure basic civic amenities.
Members of the Jaicity Residents Welfare Association (JRWA), Jagadhri, said they had met officials of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ), and the local administration several times, but their demands remained unmet.
After recently submitting a memorandum to the Commissioner of the MCYJ, JRWA executive member Advocate Atma Nand Mehta said residents were paying all municipal taxes but were still deprived of basic facilities.
“We have been writing letters to the authorities of the Municipal Corporation since 2020. Besides, we have had a number of personal meetings with the officers of the corporation. We also met the Deputy Commissioner, but the residents of Jaicity are still deprived of civic facilities,” said Advocate Mehta, a retired senior officer from the Indian Accounts and Audit Department.
He added that the roads in the authorised colony were in poor condition and that cleanliness was unsatisfactory.
“Article 21 of the Indian Constitution guarantees the fundamental right to life and personal liberty, which includes the right to live with dignity and the right to livelihood, shelter and a healthy environment,” he stated.
