“There was a traffic jam in the morning and additional policemen were deployed. In the evening, it was routine traffic congestion and the traffic police managed the movement of vehicles as per the situation. I have recommended the suspension of three zonal officers of the traffic police for negligence in duty”, said DCP traffic Virender Vij. Later, he confirmed the suspension of the three zonal officers.

Due to the full-dress rehearsal of the R-Day Parade in Delhi, heavy vehicles have been banned to enter Delhi from Gurugram till 12 pm on Tuesday. The Gurugram Traffic Police stopped heavy vehicles from entering Delhi by putting up checkpoints at Pachgaon, IMT Manesar, Kherki Daula, Hero Honda Chowk and Shankar Chowk.

Queues of heavy vehicles could be seen near the Sirhaul border. In the morning, Delhi Police checked vehicles which were entering from Gurugram. Vehicles were allowed to enter Delhi after inspection, leading to a jam on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. By 11 am, 4-km-long queues were seen from the Sirhaul border to Rajiv Chowk. Many people took to social media to share the issue. “It took commuters 45 to 60 minutes in the morning to cover 8 to 10 km. Cops were deployed, but they were helpless due to heavy traffic,” said Ravi Kiran, a commuter.
