In a move to curb malpractices in board exams, the gram panchayat of Ghogharian village in Jind district has taken it upon itself to safeguard the sanctity of the examination centre at the local government school. Led by Sarpanch Deepak, panchayat members are standing guard outside the exam centre for three hours daily, ensuring a fair and cheating-free environment.

This initiative, which has earned widespread appreciation, stems from the villagers’ long-standing demand to have an exam centre within their locality. Earlier, students from Ghogharian and nearby villages such as Baroda, Rojkheda, Kasuhan, Kalta, Badhana, Kuchrana Khurd and Karsindhu had to travel 12-15 km to reach the exam centre in Chhattar village. The village school had served as an exam centre 30 years ago but was discontinued in 1995 due to rampant cheating. Determined to bring it back, the panchayat worked tirelessly with authorities to reinstate it and has now taken responsibility for maintaining its credibility.

“We put in a lot of effort to bring back this exam centre and we will ensure that no malpractice occurs,” said Sarpanch Deepak. “Our presence outside the school is to ward off any external interference and to set an example of integrity.”

Apart from the security arrangements by the police, the panchayat’s proactive role adds an extra layer of vigilance. Exam centre superintendent Ravinder lauded the initiative, stating, “We are receiving full support from the gram panchayat and exams are running smoothly. I assure the district administration that our centre will remain free of cheating.”

With their daily watch over the premises, the villagers of Ghogharian have sent a strong message — that their commitment to fair and transparent exams is unwavering.
