In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old youth from Barah Kalan village in Jind district was shot dead in California, by a local resident following an altercation.
According to his family, Kapil, son of Ishwar, had gone to the US nearly three years ago through the donkey route after paying around Rs 45 lakh. He reportedly entered the US in 2022 after crossing Panama’s jungles and scaling the Mexico border wall. He was later detained by authorities but released after due process. Kapil had since been working as a security guard.
The incident occurred when Kapil objected to a man urinating outside the premises where he was on duty. Village sarpanch Suresh Kumar Gautam said, “Kapil stopped a native from urinating outside the premises which led to an argument and the man shot him. He died on the spot.”
The family was informed about the incident by a relative already settled in the US. The sarpanch added that villagers would meet the Jind Deputy Commissioner tomorrow to demand that Kapil’s body be brought back to India.
