Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today announced that a joint committee of senior officials from the Central Water Commission (CWC), Haryana, and Delhi Government will be formed to make the Yamuna clean and pure.
“The committee will not only focus on cleaning the Yamuna but also resolve other related issues,” Saini told mediapersons after attending a meeting on “Inter-State Coordination Related to Yamuna Water Rejuvenation” chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in New Delhi.
The CM said since the formation of the Delhi Government under Rekha Gupta, developmental plans were being executed at a rapid pace, and work for cleaning the Yamuna was moving “on a war footing.”
He said 16,000 metric tonnes of garbage have already been removed and that sewage treatment through 44 STPs treating 620 MLD of water daily is being strengthened. “Nine more STPs are being set up to clean another 510 MLD of water,” he said.
“The Yamuna will be made clean and pure in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a top priority for both governments,” Saini said, assuring visible results soon.
The CM also disclosed that the BOD level of water from Palla village in Karnal is 80, and steps are underway to improve it further. He added that Najafgarh Lake and drain will be jointly monitored, while the discharge of polluted industrial water will be checked regularly.
