Joint team raids shops, seizes banned single-use polythene bags in Yamunanagar
A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) raided several shops in Model Town of Yamunanagar, falling in Zone I of the MCYJ to crack a whip on shopkeepers, who were using banned single-use plastic items.
During the raid, the team recovered a large amount of banned polythene bags from two shops and issued challans to the owners of those shops.
The team also fined both shopkeepers Rs 4,500. According to information, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, two separate teams had been formed for Zone I and Zone II.
The team of Zone I is being led by Chief Sanitary Inspector (CSI) Harjeet Singh and that of Zone II is being headed by CSI Sunil Dutt to stop the use of single-use plastic items.
As per available information, the team headed by CSI Harjeet Singh and Junior Engineer of the HSPCB Gaurav raided at several shops in Model Town in Zone I.
“Our team inspected several shops on Tuesday. During the raid, banned polythene bags were recovered from two shops. We have issued challans to the shopkeepers of those shops and collected a fine of Rs 4,500 from them,” said CSI Harjeet Singh.
He said there was a complete ban on the use of 19 plastic items, including single-use plastic items such as polythene bags, plastic spoons, donas, glasses, ice cream sticks, plates, cups and forks from July 1, 2020.
