Joint team recovers large quantity of banned polythene bags from four shops

A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) conducted raids at several shops in Jagadhri city to stop the use of single-use plastic items.

During the raid, a large quantity of banned polythene bags was recovered from four shops. The team members issued challans on the spot to all four shopkeepers and collected a fine of Rs 3,000 from them.

According to information, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, the authorities of the MCYJ have formed separate teams for zone-I and zone-II of twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

The Zone-I team has been formed under the leadership of Chief Sanitary Inspector Harjeet Singh and the team of Zone-II is led by Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt to stop the use of single-use-plastic items. As per available information, a joint team first reached Jaroda gate of Jagadhri in Zone-I and recovered banned polythene bags from a confectionery shop here. The team members issued a challan to the owner of the shop on the spot. After this, the team reached the old grain market and Jagadhri bus stand areas and recovered banned polythene bags from three grocery shops here. All three shopkeepers were issued challans.

Sanitary Inspector Amit Kamboj said the team of the MCYJ collected a total fine of Rs 3,000 from those four shopkeepers and confiscated the recovered polythene.

He said from July 1, 2020, there was a complete ban on the use of 19 plastic items including polythene bags, plastic spoons, donas, glasses, ice cream sticks, plates, cups, forks, straws, trays, foil on sweet boxes, thermocol decorative items, PVC banners, ear-buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons and plastic flags.

“If anyone is found selling these banned items, action will be taken against such persons by the MCYJ,” said Kamboj.
