Kaithal police bust gang of thieves, 12 cases solved
The anti-vehicle theft team arrested three members of a gang allegedly involved in nighttime thefts in schools and temples. With their arrest, the police claimed to have solved 12 cases. They also recovered stolen goods worth around Rs 5 lakh from their possession.
While interacting with mediapersons, DSP Sushil Prakash said that the arrest of these accused were made following a complaint by Moti Ram, a resident of Duserpur. He reported that on the night of January 14, unidentified people had broken into Guru Brahmanand Temple at Duserpur village and stolen various items. An FIR was registered at the Guhla police station.
Kaithal Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kalia directed the anti-vehicle theft staff to expedite the investigation. Acting on the directions, a team led by Sub-Inspector Pardeep Kumar, apprehended three suspects identified as Gopal from Bhuna, Kuldeep from Shyumajara and Sultan from Kalramajara on January 18 near the Cheeka road in Kaithal. The suspects were in possession of a stolen motorcycle at that time. They were taken on a two-day police remand. During the investigation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in 12 theft cases, including those at temples, anganwadi centres and schools. They admitted to stealing items such as inverters, batteries, LCD TVs, utensils, cameras, fans, grains and other valuables.
As per the DSP, the accused were habitual offenders with multiple cases registered against them. One case of theft and three of assault have been registered against Kuldeep, while one of the NDPS and four of theft have been registered against Gopal and one case of NDPS, five cases of theft and one case of assault have been lodged against Sultan.
DSP Prakash revealed that the accused met in the Kaithal jail in 2023 and subsequently formed a gang. They used to identify potential targets during the day and execute thefts at night.
