Aimed at conducting smooth elections, an inter-state coordination meeting was held between Kaithal and Punjab police at the Cheeka police station on Monday. They discussed a plan to focus on preventing cross-border criminal activities and ensuring peaceful conduct of the elections. The meeting was attended by police officials of both states and it was chaired by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Guhla Kuldeep Beniwal.
“A roadmap has been prepared during the meeting to curb smuggling of drugs, illegal liquor and other criminal activities that might affect the election process,” said Beniwal.
During the meeting, lists of wanted criminals, drug traffickers, liquor smugglers and anti-social elements were exchanged between the police officials of both states to ensure coordinated actions in border areas.
Besides, a plan was chalked out for joint patrolling, blockade and security checks at the inter-state borders, said the DSP. Beniwal, during the meeting, highlighted that the criminals often escaped to neighbouring states after committing crimes, making it difficult for the police to apprehend them. He emphasised that the police of both states would work together to tighten the noose around such criminals.
Instructions were given to the station heads in the Punjab border areas to intensify checks on illegal liquor, drugs, and arms
smuggling. Beniwal appealed to the locals attending the meeting to report any criminal activity without fear, assuring them that the identity of informants would be kept confidential. The meeting was attended by DSP Samana in Punjab, Neha Agarwal, officers and staff from Guhla, Cheeka, Siwan and other police stations.
