Kanwar Yatra: Routes for heavy vehicles diverted in Kurukshetra

In view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, the Kurukshetra police have diverted the routes for heavy vehicles in Kurukshetra.

A large number of devotees from Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan pass through Kurukshetra district during the yatra. Nearly 400 policemen will remain deployed on duty to maintain law and order. A Kurukshetra Police spokesman said in view of the Kanwar Yatra and safety of the devotees, ample security arrangements were made. Directions were issued to the SHOs to maintain a close vigil.

Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal said during the Kanwar Yatra which started on July 11, devotees have started going towards their destination with Kanwar from Haridwar and Neelkanth. During the yatra, lakhs of Kanwar pilgrims from Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan will pass through Kurukshetra district. For security purposes, checkpoints have been set up and policemen have been deployed on all routes through which the Kanwar pilgrims will pass. Barricading has been done at the main intersections.

The Superintendent of Police said the instructions were issued to the traffic SHOs to ensure that there were no traffic jams. Meanwhile, the devotees have also been appealed to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order and follow the guidelines issued by the government. Apart from this, appeals have been made not to use DJ or loud speakers and travel safely.

About the diversion of heavy traffic, DSP Traffic Rohtas Kumar said for the convenience of the devotees, the route for heavy vehicles has been diverted from Ladwa on the Kurukshetra-Yamunanagar road. The traffic diversion plan will remain enforced till July 23.

As per the traffic police, the heavy vehicles coming from Patiala and Pehowa, heading towards Saharanpur, Haridwar and Yamunanagar, can go via Pehowa bypass NH-152 via Ismailabad and further via Thol, Kurdi, Nalvi, Shahabad and Saha. The heavy vehicle on NH-44 coming from Karnal for Saharanpur, Haridwar and Yamunanagar, can go via Shahabad and Saha.

The traffic going from Ladwa towards Yamunanagar can take the route from Ramkundi Chowk to Babain Barara and then towards Yamunanagar.

The heavy vehicles from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Yamunanagar heading towards Patiala can take the route via Ladwa, Babain, Shahabad, Nalvi, Thol, Ismailabad, and Pehowa.The traffic coming from Yamunanagar via Ladwa and Kurukshetra for Dhand, Kaithal and beyond will go via Barshahmi, Indri, Bhadason, and Nilokheri.

The DSP said the drivers were being asked to cooperate with the on-duty policemen and follow the instructions for the smooth flow of traffic.
