Tributes were paid to the bravehearts of Kargil War at various events organised by different organisations to mark the Kargil Vijay Diwas in Rohtak on Friday.

A special ceremony was organised on the campus of the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) as part of its induction programme.

Paying homage to the Kargil martyrs, MDU Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh noted that the supreme sacrifice made by the 527 personnel of the Army paved the way for India’s victory in the war.

In his keynote address, Professor Dhruva Chaudhary, Dean (Academic Affairs) at Pandit BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, said the citizens of India were safe and secure due to the herculean duties being performed by the Army.

Chaudhary exhorted the students to develop confidence, conquer their fears and confront problems of life like soldiers. “All of us should become conscious, dutiful citizens who think of society and nation first. We should also strive to develop perseverance, resilience and determination to achieve success in life,” he said.

Group Commander at NCC Group Headquarter in Rohtak, Brigadier Harbir Singh, who participated in the Kargil War as a young officer, shared his experience.

Recalling the challenging operation, Brig Harbir Singh said the Army teaches one to take decisions in crucial moments of life.

MDU Dean (Students’ Welfare) Randeep Rana, who was the convener of the programme, said the nation is proud of the supreme sacrifices made by the brave soldiers during the war.

Patriotic songs were presented as a part of the cultural programme. Meanwhile, the Innerwheel Club, Rohtak, also celebrated the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas at Mansarover Park in the city on Friday.

Singh was the chief guest at the event as well. The Brigadier, along with club members and girl students from Dhanwantri Public School, Rohtak, planted saplings of rudraksh and harsingar on the occasion.

The Youth Red Cross Unit of the Gaur Brahman Degree College also organised an event on the college premises to mark the occasion.
