Karnal DC tells MC to complete work on STPs
Karnal, June 28
The Karnal Deputy Commissioner, Anish Yadav, on Tuesday directed the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials to get the works of two sewerage treatment plants (STPs) — 8MLD in Shiv Colony and 20MLD at Phoosgarh — completed at the earliest. Even after the lapse of the deadlines, the works of both plants could not be completed. He also asked them to get the work of sewer lines connecting the STPs completed at the earliest.
More machinery to clear legacy waste
I have directed the officials to clear the legacy waste at the earliest by pressing into service the additional machinery. Anish Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, Karnal
He was chairing the annual conference on the implementation of the District Environment Plan involving educational institutions, welfare associations, local bodies, eco-clubs, all departments concerned and activists identified by the district administrations and nominees of district legal services authorities.
Shailender Arora, Regional Officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), presented the District Environment Plan and issues related to the solid waste management, plastic waste management, C&D waste management, bio-medical waste management, hazardous waste management, e-waste management, air-quality management, industrial waste water management, water quality management, mining activity management plan, waste management in rural areas, and miscellaneous activities. The DC also directed the KMC authorities to speed up the working on legacy waste. The deadline to clear the legacy waste was May 31, 2022, but still a large quantity was lying at the solid waste management plant. “I have directed the officials to clear the legacy waste at the earliest by pressing into service the additional machinery,” said the DC. He also directed all departments not to use single use plastic as it was banned from July 1. Penalty will be imposed if anyone was found using it, the DC asserted.
Accompanied by Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, councillors, and HSIIDC Industrial Welfare Association president Manoj Arora, and representatives from various departments and educational institutions, the DC said no domestic waste water from tanks from unapproved colonies was to be discharged in the drains or nullahs. Tanks should be registered by the municipal authorities concerned.
