The efforts of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN), Karnal, have borne fruit as it has managed to keep a check on power theft and reduce its line losses to a great extent in the district. It has also improved service delivery to consumers.

Basic infra strengthened

Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in rural areas, basic infrastructure of electricity has been strengthened at a cost of Rs 18.58 crore. Under the scheme, substations of 33 kV have been established in Bal Pabana, Dhakwala and Gadhi Bharal. —Kashik Mann, Superintending Engineer of the UHBVN

The authorities claim that the UHBVN has reduced line losses from 80.71 per cent, registered in 2015-16, to 8.81 per cent. With a reduction in the line losses, the UHBVN has been successful in enhancing power distribution across the district. “With regular efforts of the corporation’s employees, we have reduced transmission and distribution line losses to 8.81 per cent,” said Kashik Mann, Superintending Engineer (SE) of the UHBVN.

He said under the ‘Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon’ scheme, they had been providing 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to rural domestic consumers in all 435 villages of the district since 2020-21, which played a crucial role in reducing line losses.

Under the integrated planning development scheme, 11kV lines have been expanded in Assandh, Nissing, Nilokheri, Indri, and Taraori block. Besides, new LT lines have been erected. The authorities have also converted overhead LT lines into insulated cables.

The SE said a sum of Rs 25.20 crore had been spent on these projects. Apart from this, defunct transformers and meters have been replaced in different locations, which also helped reduce line losses in transmission and distribution, the SE added.
