The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) Commissioner, Dr Vaishali Sharma, inspected the Subhash Gate area to review the progress and quality of ongoing development works. She reviewed the repair works of streets, drains, patchwork and culverts in Ward 15.

A tender of Rs 25 lakh was floated for repair works for a duration of one year, covering various streets, drains and culverts. To ensure the work was being carried out properly, Sharma measured the progress on-site and cross-verified the entries in the measurement register. She also checked the quality of work and expressed her satisfaction.

Later, she visited the Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) constructed under the AMRUT-1 scheme in Meera Ghati. The Commissioner inspected the motors installed at the station and ensured their functionality. She also reviewed the station’s layout through its technical drawings to understand the flow of rainwater from different areas.

Sharma shared that the IPS in Meera Ghati had a capacity of 199 MLD and was completed in August 2024. It featured a sinking well with a diameter of 14 metres and a depth of 12 metres. The station is equipped with two motors of 65 HP and two of 300 HP, which operate at full capacity during the rainy season. She said the municipal engineers conducted regular random checks of these motors to ensure their efficiency.

The IPS manages rainwater from several areas in Wards 13 to 19 and pumps it into Drain No 1 using these motors. Sharma highlighted that the completion of the project had resolved the issue of waterlogging in these areas during the monsoon season.

She exhorted the engineering team to maintain the same level of diligence and quality in all municipal projects so that these could benefit the residents of the city.
