Karnal medical college gets national commission nod for 2 new PG courses

The Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) has received permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start two new postgraduate courses from the upcoming academic session 2025–26.

Four seats of ophthalmology and three seats of ENT courses have been approved by the NMC, said Dr MK Garg, Director of the KCGMC. With these courses, the college continues to expand its postgraduate academic portfolio.

With these seven seats in two courses, the KCGMC is offering 21 seats in nine courses. Earlier, it offered four seats each in anatomy, biochemistry, and microbiology, three in physiology and two each in pharmacology and forensic medicine and pediatrics. The authorities also expressed hope that psychiatry would be introduced soon.

Besides, the college offers different courses in Diplomate of National Board (DNB) including seven in anesthesia, four each in general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, and pathology, three in obstetrics and gynecology. Officials are optimistic about obtaining approval for additional DNB courses such as radiology, pathology, pulmonary medicine in the near future.

Established in 2017 with its first batch of 100 MBBS students, the college has now been granted recognition by the NMC for 120 MBBS seats, Dr Garg added.

“The introduction of new postgraduate courses in ophthalmology and ENT will significantly strengthen our clinical training facilities. It will also provide more opportunities for young doctors to pursue advanced specialisation within the region,” said the Director.
