Karnal, July 6

To make the city safer for commuters, the police will employ the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) system, a mobile application, to identify accident-prone areas and to fix defects on the roads that might lead to mishaps.

The iRAD is integrated with Vahan and Sarthi software of the government. It enables investigation officers to enter the details of road accidents such as location with latitude and longitude, accident time, date along with photos, and videos, against which a unique ID is created. After the occurrence of the accident, the police will also get the accident vehicle inspected from the motor mechanic of the department concerned.

Police official said the ID created facilitates the authorities concerned to access the details of an accident, identify the cause and accordingly recommend changes in road infrastructure to reduce accidents. The officials investigating the accidents site can also get details of the vehicle and persons involved by entering the registration number and drivers’ licence, they added.

The system is aimed at highlighting road engineering defects, identifying black spots and reducing road accidents in the district.

National Informatics Centre District Rollout Manager Swati Gupta said the application would help in identifying the black spots and rectifying them with the help of agencies concerned such as PWD (B&R), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and others as they are also integrated with the iRED app.

She further maintained that training to police officials and emergency staff of the Civil Hospital had been given about the system. Training to health workers, doctors and paramedical medical staff of the remaining government hospitals would be provided soon, she added.
