Karnal’s civic body cow shelters overcrowded, cattle to be shifted
Karnal, July 27
Considering the strain on the gaushala and nandigram at Phoosgarh, being run by the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC), MC Commissioner Abhishek Meena instructed officials to shift cattle to a gaushala in Nissing on Friday. Besides, he asked the members of the gau sewa ayog to constitute a committee to ensure the smooth functioning of the gaushala at the district jail.
Meena was chairing a meeting regarding making the city free of stray cattle with jail superintendent Amit Kumar, officials from Animal Husbandry Department Virender Sharma and Aditya Agarwal, members of gau sewa ayog, DMC Ashok Kumar, among others.
These steps are being taken after the Urban Local Bodies Minister Subhash Sudha last week set a target to make the city stray cattle-free within a month.
“Our focus is to rid the city of stray cattle. Our gaushala and nandigram are housing cattle beyond their capacity already and can no more accommodate more, so we have decided to shift 400-500 cattle to a gaushala in Nissing,” said Meena.
The DMC and chief sanitary inspector have been directed to shift these cattle there at the earliest, he added. “They have also been asked to coordinate with the authorities of other gaushalas to accommodate the maximum number of cattle,” the Commissioner said.
Meanwhile, jail superintendent Amit said a new gaushala had been constructed at the district jail. To operate it, a committee needed to be formed by the gau sewa ayog. The Municipal Commissioner asked the members of the gau sewa ayog to form a committee for the smooth operation of the gaushala in the jail.
He also instructed the officials concerned to expedite the work to provide relief to residents from stray cattle.
