Karnal’s Sandhir village tops in sex ratio in district, 3 meritorious girls honoured
In a major achievement, Sandhir village situated in Nilokheri block has been recognised as the best village in the district for its improved sex ratio.
Under the best village award scheme for leading in sex ratio, initiated by the government to promote the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, three meritorious girls from the village who excelled in their Class X exams were honoured by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Yash Jaluka with cash prizes at the Mini Secretariat on Thursday.
The ADC presented the awards and acknowledged the village's efforts in improving the gender ratio. As part of the initiative, Sonam, who secured the first position in Class X, received a cheque of Rs 75,000; Simran, who ranked second, was awarded Rs 45,000; and Payal, who was third, received Rs 30,000.
Health Department officials posted in the village were also felicitated with appreciation certificates for their outstanding contribution to improving the sex ratio.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Jaluka said under the best village award scheme, villages in the district are evaluated based on their sex ratio statistics of the year. Sandhir stood out with 38 girls born in 2024 against 22 boys, making it a model for gender balance in the region.
Dr Lokveer, Civil Surgeon, Karnal, and Dr Sheenu Chaudhary, Deputy Civil Surgeon, informed the ADC about the steps being taken for the improvement of sex ratio.
