Kashmiri vendor ‘attacked’ at Gita Mahotsav, video goes viral
A video of a Kashmiri vendor, running a stall at Brahma Sarovar, allegedly being attacked during International Gita Mahotsav went viral on social media.
According to information, the incident took place on Saturday when a group of right-wing activists carried out a procession on the banks of the Brahma Sarovar during the event. Meanwhile, a member of the procession asked visitors not to buy products from the minority community vendors. He approached the stall where he had some arguments with the vendor and started throwing clothes onto the street.
Meanwhile, another member of the procession hit the stall owner with a stick. They raised objections over the stalls being allotted to minority community persons at Gita Mahotsav.
However, some visitors immediately intervened and opposed the leaders. The stall owner raised the matter with the police and the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB). He sought action against those who attacked him.
A Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader in Kurukshetra said the board should refrain from allotting stalls to people from minority communities during religious events as it could hurt the sentiments.
Ashok Sharma, a social worker, said: “Stalls are set up only after taking necessary permissions and allotment from the board. Instead of protesting against stall owners, people should raise the matter with the KDB.”
Upender Singhal, honorary secretary of the KDB, said: “The incident came to our notice. Some individuals with personal agendas were behind the incident. Appropriate action will be taken.”
Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said: “A case was registered on Sunday. The matter is under investigation and appropriate action will be taken.”
