The accused, identified as Hardik, a resident of Yamunanagar, was brought to Kaithal on a production warrant from Kapurthala jail for further interrogation.

A minor had already been arrested in this case, who during interrogation revealed that Hardik played a key role in planning and executing the attack, said Kuldeep Beniwal, DSP, Guhla.

Hardik was in jail in connection with a separate grenade attack on a YouTuber’s residence in Jalandhar, the DSP added. “We brought him on a production warrant on Saturday and produced him before the court, from where he was sent to four-day police remand,” he said.

As per the police, some unidentified persons hurled a grenade at the police ‘naka’, after which a joint team of Kaithal and Punjab police began investigating the incident.

The pro-Khalistan terrorist group, Babbar Khalsa, later claimed responsibility for the incident through a post on social media. The joint investigation team found traces indicating that a mid-air explosion had occurred. Kaithal police registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, along with relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
