Khair wood mafia attacks forest employee, labourer in Yamunanagar
The khair wood mafia allegedly attacked a Forest Department employee and a contractor's labourer in Yamunanagar district.
In the attack, Forester Mintu Kumar, the department employee, narrowly escaped; however, Mehandi, the contractor's laborer from Taharpur Kalan village in Yamunanagar district, sustained injuries.
Based on Mintu Kumar's complaint, a case was registered against several individuals at the Chhachhrauli police station on August 25.
The complainant told the police that he and Mehandi were on night patrol in the Bustaur forest area on August 23, 2025.
He said that around 11:30 pm, they saw six or seven people making logs from illegally felled khair trees and loading the logs into an SUV.
"I immediately informed Forest Guard Ankit Kumar. Before his arrival, some of the accused fled in the SUV. However, the remaining accused attacked us with sticks and sharp-edged weapons. I narrowly escaped the attack, but Mehandi sustained head injuries.
He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, for treatment," the complainant told the police. He added that Forest Guard Ankit also reached the spot, and the remaining accused fled in another SUV.
He further stated that evidence of eight felled khair trees was found at the scene. "As many as 10 logs of khair wood, a blade, and an axe were recovered from the spot," the complainant told the police.
