A team of the Forest Department impounded a car and seized khair wood from the vehicle.
Forest Range Officer Dinesh Punia said their team saw a car and a motorcycle in the forest range developed on panchayat land near Chhachhrauli on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
He said as the team approached the car, its occupant abandoned the vehicle and escaped away from the spot on the motorcycle.
He said that when they checked the car, its boot was loaded with khair wood.
Punia said the Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Chhachhrauli, had got a case registered against unknown persons. He added that two khair trees were felled by
the miscreants.
Khair wood is used to prepare “katha” and is also used in many ayurvedic medicines. The khair wood costs between Rs 7,000 and Rs 8,000 per quintal in
the market.
