Khap panchayats organised a condolence meeting in the memory of Satyapal Malik, former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and four other states.
Heads and representatives of different khaps, farmers' unions and other social organisations also participated in a ‘havan’ ceremony organised on the occasion.
The condolence meeting and ‘havan’ ceremony were organised at the historic Meham Chaubisi chabutara on Friday.
Sarvjatiya Chaubisi Khap head Anil Rathi said Malik raised the voice of farmers, workers and labourers, remained connected with the common man and had the image of an honest leader.
"He got Article 370 abolished while serving as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna award in view of his contributions," claimed Rathi.
Dhanda Khap head Azad Singh and other leaders of khaps and farmers' organisations also paid homage to Malik.
