Even as the BJP has started preparations and is upbeat about the civic elections, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has hinted a delay in the polls. These may now be held after the Delhi elections and Haryana Budget.

Khattar said the Election Commission (EC) might announce the dates by March 31. “The matter of civic body elections is under process. The EC has completed its preparations. There are elections in Delhi, and also the Budget of Haryana. Once the government finalises the necessary formalities within one and a half months, I believe the election dates will be announced before March 31,” he said in response to a media query about MC elections across the state.

He was in the city to dedicate three major projects worth Rs 59 crore. Interacting with the media at PWD Rest House, he spoke on various issues, including Delhi elections.

“The elections in Delhi have just begun, but I believe that this time, Arvind Kejriwal and his party will not form the government. If no single party secures a majority, an alliance could be reached, but I am confident the BJP will perform well. Once voting begins, the results will become clear within four days,” he said.

Khattar also touched upon the BJP's commitment to campaigns across states and highlighted that party workers from Haryana had actively participated in election duties in other states. “Our party workers have taken up their responsibilities diligently and will remain in other states to support the campaigns,” he added.

On the contentious issue of farmers' protests at Khanauri border, Khattar said, “Farmers in Haryana are playing a significant role in boosting agricultural production. Over the past decade, the government has ensured that no farmer faces unnecessary difficulties. We always consider their genuine demands. Governments take actions when limits are crossed.”
