Khattar lays stone of Banda Bahadur memorial in Yamunanagar

Says will showcase glorious heritage of Sikh community

Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial will be constructed on about 20 acres at Lohgarh in the district and a grand statue will be constructed through a global design competition, said Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, while laying the foundation stone of the memorial on Monday.

The land for the memorial has been provided by the Bhagwanpur gram panchayat.

State Public Health Engineering and Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana and Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Trust's founding trustees Kanwarpal Gujjar and Sanjay Bhatia, aomg others, were present.

Khattar said the memorial would not only immortalise the indomitable courage and sacrifice of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur but also serve as a centre to showcase the glorious heritage of the Sikh community.

He said after his victory over Sirhind, Baba Banda Bahadur established Lohgarh as his capital and brought relief to farmers by abolishing the feudal system.
