An online quiz competition on the theme Contribution of Dr SR Ranganathan in the Field of Library Science was organised at Dayanand Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Kurukshetra, on Wednesday to mark the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr Ranganathan, which is celebrated nationwide as National Librarian Day.
A total of 160 students from various faculties participated. Meenu (BA 2nd Year) won first place, followed by Nisha (BA 2nd Year) in second place, and Anshita (BA Vocational 3rd Year) in third place. Consolation prizes went to Bhavana (BCom 3rd Year) and Armanpreet Kaur (BCom 3rd Year).
Addressing the participants, Acting Principal Dr Urmila Panghal lauded Dr Ranganathan as the Father of Indian Library Science, noting his pioneering work in establishing a robust library system in India and his development of the Decimal Classification System—a revolutionary step in organising information scientifically.
She congratulated the winners, emphasising that such competitions not only broaden students’ knowledge but also inspire them to learn from the lives of great personalities. She thanked the coordinators and urged faculty members to encourage students to engage more deeply with books.
