Kurukshetra varsity’s global identity shaped by its alumni, says VC

The department of statistics and operations research at Kurukshetra University organised its alumni meet, ‘Smritigandh 2.0’, on Sunday.

The event witnessed a gathering of alumni from India and abroad, including the USA and China, who returned to their alma mater to relive memories and share their journeys.

Chief guest KU Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva emphasised that alumni were the true identity and brand ambassadors of any university. He expressed pride in the fact that Kurukshetra University graduates were making their mark at national and international levels.

Highlighting the growing importance of statistics, research, analytics and artificial intelligence in the contemporary academic landscape, Sachdeva stated that AI was fundamentally driven by data and statistics played an essential role in interpreting, analysing and deriving meaningful insights from it.

Sachdeva underlined that statistical methods form the backbone of machine learning, data science, behavioural analytics and other AI-driven domains, ensuring accuracy, fairness and reliability in AI models.

Department chairperson Prof MS Kadian noted that alumni were the greatest asset of any institution.

The alumni, including Dr Paramjit Singh Virk (USA), Prof Brij Mohan (China) and ISS officer Mukesh Ahuja shared insights on global opportunities, international exposure and emerging trends in technology and research.

Harish Kumar, director of Wirtzite India Pvt Ltd, spoke about the rapidly evolving technological landscape, emphasising that data analytics, AI and statistical modeling will dominate the future.

Retired senior faculty members, including Prof NK Jain, Prof RL Garg and Prof SD Sharma recalled the department’s early days, challenges and milestones receiving standing ovations from the alumni for their inspiring contributions.

During the afternoon session, the alumni interacted with students, revisited the department and appreciated various academic presentations.

As per Kurukshetra University spokesperson Smritigandh 2.0 emerged not only as a successful reunion but also as a powerful bridge fostering renewed connections between the department and its global alumni community.
