KU Dharohar Haryana Museum marks 19 years of cultural legacy

The Dharohar Haryana Museum, situated on the campus of Kurukshetra University, marked its 19th foundation day on Monday.

Inaugurated on April 28, 2006, the museum has grown into a cultural landmark, drawing over 33 lakh visitors to date, including foreign guests from 170 countries.

On the occasion, Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva highlighted the museum’s contribution in promoting Haryanvi culture on a global platform.

More than 150 delegates from nine northern Indian states — Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand — visited the museum as a part of the National Conference 2025. The visit offered participants an immersive experience of Haryanvi folk traditions through over 50 curated galleries.

Prof Maha Singh Poonia, Director, Public Relations Kurukshetra University, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in strengthening cultural ties.

Meanwhile, museum curator Dr Kuldeep Arya noted that Dharohar was the only museum of its kind in Haryana, having carved a distinct identity both nationally and internationally. The museum aims to further connect the younger generation with the rich heritage of Haryana. Last year alone, the museum welcomed 1.80 lakh visitors.
