‘Kua pujan’ at 12 villages of Kaithal district
To strengthen the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative of the Union Government, the Women and Child Development Department organised “kua pujan” (well worship) ritual at 12 villages of Kaithal district on the birth of girls. These villages include Balu, Kangthali, Siwan, Guhna, Rasulpur, Kutubpur, Habri, Rasina, Bakal, Kheri, Kurad, and Diwal and others. The initiative aimed to promote awareness about the importance of daughters in society.
During ceremonies, women sang songs dedicated to their daughters, and mothers carried a traditional “kalash” (sacred vessel) on their heads as they walked towards village wells for the ritual. The programmes saw enthusiastic participation from local women, who celebrated the birth of daughters with joy and devotion. District Programme Officer Gurjeet Kaur said under the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign, several programmes were conducted weekly, including “selfie with daughter”, “kua pujan” and plantation drives. She emphasised that the goal was to encourage a positive mind set towards daughters.
