Kurukshetra cops impound truck, seize 262 boxes of liquor
The CIA-2 unit of the Kurukshetra police has seized 262 boxes of liquor on late Tuesday evening.
The accused driver has been identified as Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Solan. The truck was on its way from Punjab to Bihar.
As per the information, the police had stopped a truck on the Ambala-Delhi national highway after getting a tip-off that liquor was being smuggled in a truck, loaded with furniture. Following the information, a naka was established near Pipli zoo on the NH-44. A truck coming from the Shahabad direction was stopped. After stopping the truck, the driver tried to flee, however he was caught by the staff.
During checking, the police team found furniture loaded in the front, and a large number of boxes hidden behind the furniture. The boxes contained liquor bottles, and old clothes. The truck was sized and taken to the CIA-2 unit. As many as 262 boxes containing 3,144 bottles of liquor bottles of different brands were recovered. The truck driver failed to produce any document and permit regarding the transportation of liquor.
A case has been registered at the Thanesar Sadar police station under the Excise Act. The truck driver was produced before a court which sent him to three-day police remand.
CIA-2 in-charge Mohan Lal said, “The accused used to place furniture, two-wheeler and other stuff in front to create a scene like someone’s personal belongings were being shifted, but in reality the accused used to smuggle liquor. During the remand, we will obtain information regarding the other people involved in smuggling, the source and the point of delivery.”
