Haryana Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao has stated that the quality of healthcare facilities in the state's government health institutions is steadily improving. "This progress is evident from the fact that the Central Government has awarded the 'Kayakalp' award to 769 health institutions in Haryana this year, a significant increase from the 390 institutions that received the award last year," she said.

In a statement issued yesterday, Rao said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released a list of health institutions receiving the prestigious 'Kayakalp' award. Among them, Kurukshetra District Hospital has been ranked first at the state level for the current financial year. In addition, 768 other institutions across Haryana have also been recognised under the initiative.

The Health Minister explained that the Kayakalp Award initiative, launched by the Government of India, acknowledges healthcare institutions that demonstrate outstanding performance in cleanliness and infection control practices. "Haryana is taking a leading role in implementing these practices and the growing number of awarded institutions each year reflects the state's commitment to improving public health facilities," she said.

She further highlighted that following an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the National Kayakalp Award on May 15, 2015, to enhance the quality of public health facilities nationwide.

Congratulating the award-winning institutions and their staff, Rao noted that Kurukshetra District Hospital, which secured the top state ranking, has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh for its achievement. Similarly, the Community Health Centre in Badkhalsa village, Sonepat district, was recognised as the best in its category and received a cash prize of Rs 15 lakh.

The minister also detailed the distribution of awards among different categories of health institutions: 19 district hospitals, 38 general hospitals, 76 community health centres, 196 primary health centres and 438 Ayushman Arogya Mandir sub-health centres.

In addition to the 769 health institutions honoured under the Kayakalp initiative, two special awards were presented in the environment-friendly hospital category. The Sector 10 Hospital in Gurugram secured first place, receiving Rs 10 lakh, while the Mullana Community Health Centre in Ambala district was recognised as the best in its category, winning Rs 5 lakh.

Dr Manish Bansal, Director General of Health Services, Haryana, highlighted the remarkable growth in the number of institutions receiving the award. "Last year, 390 health institutions under the Kayakalp scheme were awarded a total of approximately Rs 3.54 crore in cash prizes. This year, the number of recognised institutions has nearly doubled to 769, with total prize money amounting to Rs 5.09 crore," he said.
