Kurukshetra University gets Environment Champion Award

Kurukshetra University (KU) has been honoured with the Environment Champion Award 2025 in Wildlife Warriors (Wildlife Conservation) category by the Wildlife Institute of India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva stated that Kurukshetra University was the only university in Haryana to receive the prestigious award.

Prof Sachdeva added that for the past three years, KU’s dedicated efforts in institutional and academic environmental activities, documented under the “Wildlife Warriors” category, had earned them the prestigious Environment Champion Award 2025.

He highlighted that KU had preserved 40 acres of its campus land as part of its commitment to environmental protection. Additionally, the university had adopted a comprehensive environmental conservation policy, under which tree plantation by students was made a mandatory component of the academic curriculum.

Sachdeva further shared that the university had set a target of planting 75,000 trees in a year — a campaign already underway since the previous year.

Dr Virender Pal, Registrar, KU, said the award would further motivate the faculty, staff, and students to remain committed to environmental conservation efforts.
