Kurukshetra University has been honoured with the Environment Champion Award 2025 by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, in recognition of its sustained commitment to environmental conservation and awareness.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva and Registrar Dr Virender Pal congratulated Prof Deepak Rai Babbar from the department of zoology for his pivotal role in compiling three years of environmental initiatives and successfully nominating the university for the distinguished award.
Prof Sachdeva stated, “Kurukshetra University has consistently been at the forefront of promoting environmental awareness and conservation efforts. Environmental education is integral to our academic framework, and our faculty members actively engage the broader community in these efforts. Being recognised by a premier institute like WII is a testament to our ongoing dedication and will serve as a powerful motivator for our students, faculty, and staff.”
Dr Virender Pal emphasised that the award would further energise KU’s environmental protection efforts.
Prof Deepak Rai Babbar, who submitted the nomination under the Wildlife Warrior category, explained that the application was made as part of an initiative under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, led by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. The Wildlife Institute of India had invited nominations from educators across Ganga basin states. KU’s selection is based on a comprehensive portfolio of environmental education, outreach and institutional activities undertaken over the past three years.
