Kurukshetra varsity VC pays tributes to martyrs

On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Kurukshetra University’s (KU) Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva paid tributes to martyrs at Dharohar Haryana Museum, KU. He said their martyrdom is an inspiration for all and it will continue to inspire the coming generations.

The VC said the indomitable courage of the soldiers helps them stand firm in adverse and unfavourable circumstances to protect the country. Kargil Vijay Diwas is a ceremonious reminder of the sacrifices of the bravehearts and a celebration of their fortitude, which instils a sense of national pride and gratitude in everyone.

The Vice-Chancellor paid tributes to martyr Major Sandeep Sankhla, a former student of the Department of Chemistry of Kurukshetra University. He was posthumously awarded India’s highest peacetime gallantry award, Ashok Chakra, for his bravery in Jammu and Kashmir. Vir Chakra awardee martyr 2nd Lieutenant Rajendra Singh Nagar and Social Work Department alumnus martyr Captain Jintu Gogoi were also paid tributes. Captain Gogoi was an officer of 17 Garhwal Rifles and was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra, India’s third highest wartime military honour, for his courage and bravery during operations in the Kargil War in 1999.
