Kurukshetra varsity’s three-day annual athletics meet begins

The three-day 61st Annual Athletics Meet 2024-25 of Kurukshetra University started at Dronacharya Stadium on Wednesday. Kurukshetra Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva said sports teach the significance of teamwork, self-determination, confidence and right mindset for life skills.

KU sports council president and Principal of MN College, Shahabad, Dr Ashok Chaudhary inaugurated the athletics meet. He said sports should always be played in a good spirit. Dr Chaudhary also administered sportsmanship pledge to the players.

On this occasion, KU Sports Director Dr Rajesh Sobti said around 600 athletes from the colleges affiliated to the university were participating in the athletic meet.

Gaurav of Bhagwan Parshuram College secured the first position in the men's 800-m race, Ankush of Greenwood Degree College, Karnal, secured the second position and Vikas of DAV College, Cheeka, secured the third position. In the women's race, Rimpi of Seth Navrang Rai Lohia Jayaram Girls College, Lohar Majra, secured the first position, Anchal Rani of Arya PG College, Panipat, secured the second position, Preena Devi of Gurunanak Khalsa College, Yamunanagar, secured the third position and Rachna of BPR College, Kurukshetra, secured the fourth position.

In women's long jump, Kusum of Greenwood Degree College, Karnal, won the first place, Sukhpreet Kaur of Government Girls College, Guhla Cheeka, secured second place and Jiya of KVA DAV College for Women, Karnal, secured third place. In men's shot put, Vikas of KIET, Bilaspur, secured the first place, DAV College, Sadhaura, secured second and Kushal Dhangi of BAR Janta College, Kaul, secured the third place. In men's javelin throw competition, Tushar of Swami Devi Dayal Professional Institute, Barwala, secured the first place, Surya Pratap Singh of Jat College, Kaithal, secured second and Sagar Ruhal of Gurunanak Khalsa College, Karnal, secured the third place.
