Lack of a strong party organisation led to Cong defeat: Selja
Congress MP Kumari Selja addressed the challenges her party faced in the recent state elections. She acknowledged that while the people wanted the Congress to win, the party fell short due to internal shortcomings. Despite the hard work of the Congress workers, the party failed to secure victory. Selja mentioned that these issues within the party would be addressed for future success. Selja was addressing mediapersons in Fatehabad on Tuesday.
Selja, who represents the Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency, stated that the people of her constituency had once again placed their trust in her, largely due to her continuous connection with the public. She said her victory was a result of maintaining strong relationships with the people, and now she was focused on working for the development of the region. However, she noted that if the Congress had been in power, more tangible progress would have been made.
Reflecting on the Assembly elections, Selja admitted that the party had high hopes but was unable to meet these. She mentioned that although the public wanted the Congress to form the government, the BJP succeeded in coming to power. According to her, the BJP had successfully diverted public attention from key issues, but the Congress party was committed to addressing its own shortcomings.
Selja pointed out that in a democracy, winning or losing was not the only measure; it was the voice of the people that truly mattered. She reiterated that the people’s voice was with the Congress, and while there were several factors behind the election loss, some of these were due to the party’s internal issues and organisational weaknesses. She acknowledged that the lack of a strong party organisation contributed to the defeat, a problem that the party would need to address while moving forward.
During the event, Selja was joined by various local Congress leaders, including MLA Balwan Singh Daulatpuria, Tohana MLA Paramveer Singh, and state Congress representative Arvind Sharma.
