Panipat, February 17
Despite tall claims of providing better infrastructure facilities to industrialists, the reality on the ground in the ‘Textile City’ of Panipat is dismal. Broken roads, defunct streetlights and poor sanitation have become the identity of industrial sectors here.
No attention to road dug 5 years ago
- Shree Bhagwan Aggarwal, president, Sector-29 part-1 Industrialists’ Association said the Sector 29 bypass road, which was dug up by authorities five years ago, has not been constructed till date
- The main road, which is around 30-m wide from Flora Chowk to NH-44, connects all four industrial sectors to NH-44. This road is also in a pathetic state, say residents
Industrial Sectors 29 parts 1 and 2 and Sector 25 parts 1 and 2, developed by the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), are now being maintained by the Haryana State Industrial Infrastructure and Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
Industrialists have complained against broken roads, poor drainage of storm water, defunct street lights in these areas at several platforms but to no avail. Almost all roads in Sector 25 part-2 have been lying broken for the last three years. The Sector 29 bypass road was dug up five years ago and has been lying unattended for the same duration.
Sewers in the industrial cluster have been lying choked due to which sewage water overflows on the roads.
Shree Bhagwan Aggarwal, president, Sector-29 part-1 Industrialists’ Association said the Sector 29 bypass road had not been constructed for five years now. The main road, which is around 30-m wide from Flora chowk to NH-44, connects all four industrial sectors to NH-44. This road has also been badly damaged. Aggarwal said residents have raised this issue several times with the authorities concerned but to no avail.
Sanjeev Garg, Secretary, Sector-25 Industrial Area Association, said most of the streetlights in industrial sectors were lying defunct.
Nitin Arora, president, Panipat Dyers’ Association, Sector 29 part-2, said industrialists were facing a lot of problems due to the distribution of basic amenities to three departments. Sewerage, common effluent treatment plant (CETP) and canal water supply to dyeing sectors is maintained by Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP); parks, greenbelts, roads and streetlights are maintained by the Municipal Corporation (MC) and property matters are being maintained by the HSIIDC, he said.
Sector 2 part-2 was an only dyeing sector established in 2003 but even after 20 years, the HSVP has failed to provide connections of potable water to industrialists, he said.
