A reduction in influx of candidates from outside Haryana was witnessed for jobs of construction workers in Israel on the last day of a special recruitment drive being conducted on the Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) campus following Haryana candidates being given the "priority".

Unaware of the "priority" factor, the candidates from various parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab and Delhi reached the campus but they had to go back home disappointed as they were not allowed to appear for the skill test.

Those selected to be notified via phone

A total 1,885 candidates have undergone skill test for the jobs of masonry, carpentry, tiling and bar-bending work in Israel during the special drive conducted from January 16 to 21. Results of the test will be declared soon and the selected candidates will be informed through a phone call. Prof Yudhvir Singh, Director, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, MDU

Interestingly, many migrant labourers engaged in construction work locally for the past several years also showed interest in the jobs due to high wages but they too were not entertained despite some of them having the Aadhaar card with a local address.

"A total 1,885 candidates have undertaken the skill test for the jobs of masonry, carpentry, tiling and bar-bending work in Israel during the special drive carried out from January 16 to 21. Results of the test will be declared soon and the selected candidates will be informed through a phone call," Prof Yudhvir Singh, Director, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), MDU, said.

He said many candidates from other states also appeared for the skill test on the first two days of the drive.

Notably, the UIET had provided requisite facilities to the teams associated with the test, which was conducted by a team of technical experts/officials from Israel in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation and the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam.

In the morning, the team officials began taking the skill test of those candidates who were registered on Saturday. They could not appear for the test as the officials from Israel were on a holiday on that day. However, many new candidates from different parts of Haryana also got themselves registered for the test but priority was given to already enrolled candidates.

"The priority given to Haryana candidates in the past three days considerably brought down the number of candidates from other states on Sunday. Nominal candidates from outside Haryana came today and these were the ones who did not know that outsiders were not being allowed to appear for the skill test," said a MDU security official.

Amar Chand, a migrant labourer from Hamirpur (UP), who has been staying in Rohtak for the past several years, claimed that the authorities did not allow him to appear for the skill test while he had a local Aadhaar Card and the Parivar Pehchan Patra.
