Lawbreakers to lose passports, arms licences, warn police

Ahead of the farmers’ march to Delhi on February 13, the Karnal and Kaithal police have geared up security arrangements across both districts. Police officials are holding meetings with the farmers, urging them not to take the law into their hands.

The Kaithal police have announced cancelling of passports and arms licences if anyone is found ibreaking law.

The Kaithal police have increased vigil on the inter-state border of Haryana and Punjab, while the Karnal police are closely monitoring the movement of vehicles on the National Highway-44. As many as 10 companies of the police, including five from other districts, have been deployed in Kaithal district. Anti-riot mock-drills are being conducted.

“There can be damage to public property by protesters, so to maintain law and order in Kaithal district, we have announced the cancellation of passports and arms licences of the people who take the law into their hands,” said Upasana, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kaithal.

Karnal SP Shashank Kumar Sawan said they had made all arrangements to ensure law and order on the National Highway-44 and other highways. “The traffic movement will not be affected and nobody will be allowed to take the law into their hands,” the Karnal SP added.

The Kaithal SP held a meeting of officials and incharges of the companies at the police lines on Saturday, directing them to maintain law and order. The SP said they had made all arrangements, including deployment of adequate police forces and duty magistrates, at various locations for monitoring the situation and maintaining peace.

“The police will keep a watch on suspicious vehicles and anti-social elements. Police personnel and officers have been instructed to remain equipped with helmets, body protectors and other anti-riot equipment during duty,” said the Kaithal SP.
